Position: Summer Internship Program - Marine Safety & Training Intern

Location: Hybrid in Miami, Florida

Dates: May 12th - July 25th, 2025

Compensation: Competitive hourly wage provided

Key Details:

  • Hybrid Program: This internship is a hybrid program based in Miami, Florida. Students must be available for the entire duration of the program and willing to work a hybrid schedule, combining both in-office and remote work. This is a full-time opportunity, with interns working 40 hours per week. While hours may vary, interns can expect to work from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday.

  • Relocation Support: Carnival provides housing for interns who are relocating to Miami for the summer.

  • Eligibility: Juniors, seniors, and graduate students are preferred for the program.

  • Technical Requirements: Interns will be provided with a company-issued laptop and will need reliable internet when working remotely.

Department Summary:

The Marine Safety and Training Department is dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance aboard Carnival Cruise Line vessels. Our primary responsibilities include:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Adherence to all applicable international and national maritime regulations, standards, and codes, including but not limited to SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, and ISM Code.

  • Emergency Response: Development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive emergency response plans and procedures to address potential hazards such as fires, floods, medical emergencies, and security threats.

  • Safety Training: Provision of comprehensive safety training programs for all crew members, covering topics such as fire prevention and suppression, first aid, survival techniques, security awareness, and emergency procedures.

  • Proficiency Assessment: Regular assessment of crew members' knowledge, skills, and abilities to ensure their proficiency in all safety-related tasks.

  • Risk Assessment and Management: Identification, evaluation, and mitigation of potential safety risks to minimize the likelihood of accidents and incidents.

By diligently fulfilling these responsibilities, the Marine Safety and Training Department plays a critical role in safeguarding the lives of our passengers and crew, and maintaining the integrity of our maritime operations.

Internship Project Summary:

Project Goal: To assist the Marine Safety and Training Department in improving the quality, accessibility, and efficiency of its training materials and SharePoint platform.

Project Objectives:

  • Review and Update Training Materials:

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of existing training materials to identify areas for improvement, such as outdated information, unclear instructions, or lack of engagement.

  • Assist in the development of new or revised training materials, including manuals, presentations, and online modules, ensuring they align with current regulatory requirements and best practices.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather input and ensure the accuracy and relevance of the training content.

  • Optimize SharePoint Platform:

  • Analyze the current structure and functionality of the department's SharePoint site to identify areas for improvement.

  • Assist in reorganizing and streamlining the SharePoint site to enhance user experience and facilitate efficient access to information.

  • Develop and implement strategies to improve document management, version control, and knowledge sharing within the SharePoint environment.

  • Create or update SharePoint templates and workflows to automate routine tasks and streamline processes.

  • Essential Functions:

    • Improve the quality and accessibility of training materials.

    • Enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's SharePoint platform.

    • Increase employee satisfaction and engagement with training programs.

    • Strengthen compliance with regulatory requirements.

    Specific Qualifications:

    • Strong organizational and time management skills.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Interest in maritime safety and training.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
