UNC Charlotte Leadership & Community Engagement

University Professional Internship Program
Closes on Monday, April 1, 2024

Job Description

Leadership & Community Engagement has multiple internships that will provide service with the community through mutually beneficial relationships. These opportunities will allow interns to experience hands-on aspects of organizing volunteer/service opportunities for students through the lens of social justice and active citizenship.

This internship will work with a variety of organizations in the local community. Past students in this role have served with organizations such as Transforming Youth Movement, Miracle League, Girls on the Run, and Live Learn Play.

This internship will also provide an opportunity to lead a team of 3 members of the SERVE (Students Engaging in Rewarding Volunteer Experiences) team as a student director. This team helps with the communication, marketing, and planning of youth and education service opportunities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate with a dynamic team of other interns, graduate assistants and the Program Director of Leadership & Community Engagement to develop opportunities for community service and engagement.
  • Plan and implement opportunities for community engagement that focus on youth and education.
  • Plan, guide, and hold meetings for SERVE team committee members.
  • Research and stay up to date with the demographics and nature of the Charlotte community.
  • Remain in constant, good communication with community partners. This includes email communication, phone calls, and sometimes in-person meetings.
  • Lead groups of students who attend service events in meaningful reflection.
  • Recruit student participants for planned opportunities through tabling, posting on various social media platforms and investigating new ways to publicize.
  • Provide information to marketing interns who will help publicize events.
  • Review program offerings from other universities in order to obtain new ideas.
  • Complete required waiver prior to the event and evaluations post events.
  • Become Van Certified with the University in order to assist with transporting students to service events.
  • Complete 10 office hours per week. This includes and is not limited to a meeting with your direct supervisor, a meeting with your committee or organization general body, and a professional development meeting each week.

Leadership & Community Engagement has multiple community engagement internships. It is not necessary to apply for all in order to be considered for all. Please rank your choices of the internships in your letter of application. You should rank only those internships for which you are interested in being considered.
