Construction Materials Staff Engineer

S&ME is seeking an individual to join our Construction Services team in Augusta, Georgia as a Construction Materials Staff Engineer and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients.
What You Will Do:
As a Construction Materials Staff Engineer, you play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of construction projects by assessing and verifying the properties and quality of materials used in construction. Working under the supervision of a Licensed Engineer, you will coordinate field explorations, field logging of soil samples, performing engineering calculations/design, preparation of proposals and reports, and project and client support.
- Reviewing plans and specifications in preparation for field observations on construction sites
- Documenting field activities, observations, and testing results on projects
- Daily use of Metafield®, and/or other field and laboratory information management system
- Calibrating field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards
- Perform Special Inspection observations per the International Building Code (IBC)
- Communicating daily with management staff, general contractors, and clients
Who You Are:
- You have a bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related field
- You have 0-2 years of professional experience
- You have a basic working knowledge of construction plans and specifications
- You have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and MicroStation, with the ability to learn commercial software applications
- You are willing to obtain International Code Council (ICC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), and/or Department of Transportation (DOT) certifications in the fields of aggregate, asphalt, soil, reinforced concrete, and masonry
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:
- Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
- Walking over rough and uneven terrain
- Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
- Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
- Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
