About the Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSI):
The Governor's Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation. Participation in the program will offer students a multitude of experiences including networking with state employees, resume building and soft skills workshops, agency head panels, and much more.

Role Overview:
This position works with the White River State Park finance team. The candidate selected should have a desire to grow their career in finance or a related field.
To be considered for an intern position, candidates must be current students in an accredited college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
Salary Statement:
The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those that do not hold a bachelor's degree & $17.24 for those that hold a bachelor's degree or higher by the time the internship starts.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:

Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study

Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline
-
Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations
-
Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects
-
Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives
-
This position will work in several areas of the Finance department assisting with analyzing and reporting and other related duties
-
This position will also research information in several systems and verify the information is correct and being reported correctly
-
This position reports directly to the CFO/Controller
-
Assists CFO/Controller in financial analysis and reporting for several functional areas
-
Assists CFO/Controller in gaining knowledge about preparing budgets and AP as needed within financial software
-
Maintains knowledge of all procurement, AP and inventory processes and to assist
-
Analyzes invoices and other related accounting documents to determine accuracy and validity of expenditures
-
Verify data within system

What You'll Need for Success:

Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education.

Academic work in related field

Ability to analyze data sets related to discipline

Ability to conduct well-informed research

Ability to review and make recommendations on proposed changes to relevant policies and procedures

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel frequently (formulas such as VLOOKLUP's)

Experience with Paycor or Financial Edge (Blackbaud) Financials or other ERP system preferable

Preferable knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of public accounting and budgeting
-
Preferable knowledge of federal and state accounting laws, policies and procedures
-
Specialized knowledge of agency's mission, programs, and administrative policies
-
Ability to solve complex accounting and budget issues
-
Ability to develop accounting procedures to meet agency needs
-
Ability to assist in budget preparations
-
Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements and reports
-
Ability to develop effective work relationships
-
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
