Job Description
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This position is responsible for supporting Production Molding by analyzing tool and molded part issues and driving corrective actions through partnerships with external mold vendors. The Tooling Engineer generates RFQs for tooling repairs and spare tooling part orders to maintain, repair, and modify production molds, as well as places and tracks delivery of all purchases related to tooling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned):
• Analyzes molded part non-conformities and proposes Tooling Solutions.
• Initiates and drives RFQs for tooling purchases, tooling repair processes, spare part orders.
• Places purchase orders and tracks delivery of all purchases related to tooling projects.
• Communicates with key team members, internal departments, and approved vendors to develop project schedules and budgets.
• Structures projects and defines clear objectives for vendors. Gathers and documents requirements and functional specifications; analyzes vendor workload to determine capacity and capability.
• Tracks vendor tooling projects to determine priorities, manage resources, and assure on-time delivery.
• Collaborates with internal customers, external vendors, and supply chain to establish project priority, schedule, status, and inventory information.
• Analyzes First Article Inspection and Production data to insure capable tooling solutions.
• Provides weekly status reports of progress in all areas of tooling, qualification scheduling, tool transfers, and tool repair status.
EDUCATION AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong organization and communication skills with internal and external customers
• Detail oriented with the ability to adapt to changes quickly.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Highly collaborative, functions well on a team
• Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing a plus
• Experience in micro molding a plus
• Experience with 3D modeling software such as Inventor or SolidWorks, mold flow analysis software, and Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
