Job Description
Work Duties
Scanning (capture) photograph analog film (negative and positive) to create digital images
Provide initial quality control of scanned images
Provide advanced quality control of scanned images
Provide additional correction of scanned images, if necessary
Provide initial processing of digital images: crop, rotate and adjust levels of scanned images
Create, enter, and edit descriptive metadata into Excel
Categorize data sets and develop categories for data upload
Ensuring correct filing, storage and naming of all materials and assets to ensure that the production process runs smoothly and efficiently
Enter and edit Excel data for research purposes
Research information for metadata
Record and track work progress
Rehouse analog film, if necessary, to ensure preservation
Other special assignments related to the unit and library mission
Support the preparation of materials for online publication
Required Skills
Ability to use Windows and Macintosh computers
Attention to detail
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with digital image files
Familiarity with photographic materials
Familiarity with scanner hardware and software
Ability to conduct online or in-person historical research on photographic materials for metadata
Justification:
To assist the new Digital Production Librarian/Archivist in the ongoing digital reformatting of physical archival collections of historical significance, for preservation in our repository and greater online access in Goldmine worldwide. This position, once trained, will work under minimal supervision handling potentially fragile and rare archival materials.
