WR Engineers in Training/ Staff Professional II's are hands-on and immersive learning experiences. We have Engineer in Training/ Staff Professional II positions available in the following departments:

Site Civil Land Development, Residential Land Development, Landscape Architecture, Stormwater, Utilities, and Geomatics. 

Positions are posted in our Cary, Charlotte, Raleigh, Wilmington, and Greensboro locations.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Assist with the review of data received from technical staff, analyze information, and determine compliance with standards and design concepts
  • Assist with preliminary and completed layouts, design concepts, and detailed design drawings from technical notes, sketches, and/or other drawings, ensuring they meet our company and industry standards and codes
  • Assist with the research of standards/codes as directed
  • Under the direction of professional and technical staff, apply technical concepts and theoretical design information to real world situations
  • Complete deliverables and project responsibilities per direction of technical staff
  • Complete tasks as assigned by technical staff
  • Organize project-related information per our Company policies and procedures
  • Use various applications to generate drawings, reports, or other technical based deliverables based on specific project requirements
  • Follow technical aspects and policies of the Department and Company
  • Analyze technical problems related to a task with guidance
  • Use current technology as much as practicable to design projects
  • Participate in scheduled team meetings and as needed, project meetings

Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or field of expertise or equivalent experience
  • 0-4 years of related experience in field of specialty
  • If applicable, successful completion of FE Exam or at least one section of the LARE exam
  • Exposure to or experience in AutoCAD, MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil3D, Geopak, and/or graphic software experience
  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications
  • Self-motivated, engaged, and team-oriented with the ability to work independently
  • Execute multiple tasks under tight deadlines and prioritize responsibilities
  • Understand planning and/or design concepts and methods
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to take direction and learn software applications
  • Energetic and flexible

Preferred:

  • Internships in field of expertise

Working Conditions

The assignment may require infrequent evening/weekend work and job site visits outdoors. Candidates should enjoy working in collaborative, fast-paced, and client-driven environment.

Must frequently lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
