Organization/Department Profile
The Matthews Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) has been a cornerstone of the local business community for 45 years, fostering economic growth, promoting community engagement, and supporting the success of our members. We serve as a hub for over 300 businesses, nonprofits, and local leaders, providing resources, networking opportunities, and advocacy to enhance the Matthews community's vitality.

Project Description/Scope
The project will focus on assisting with the planning and executing the Matthews Chamber of Commerce’s 45th Anniversary Cocktail Reception. This milestone celebration will provide an elegant, yet relaxed environment for members, community leaders, and stakeholders to honor the Chamber’s history and achievements. The event will feature hors d’oeuvres, beverages, live music, brief remarks, and a showcase of MACC’s contributions to the community. The project will be conducted in-person with select tasks performed remotely.


Preferred Student Demographic/Qualifications
We are seeking a student with an interest in event planning, communications, or hospitality. The ideal candidate will have:

o Strong organizational and time-management skills.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
o Creativity and attention to detail in planning and design.
o Familiarity with tools like Canva, Eventbrite, or Microsoft Office.

Hours Required for Completion
Approximately 40 hours total, depending on project scope and revisions.

Role Type
Hybrid, including remote work for design tasks and attending the cocktail reception on March 7th, 2025.

Learning Experience
The student will gain valuable hands-on experience in event planning and execution. This includes vendor coordination, marketing, guest management, and day-of event operations. The project will enhance the student’s organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills while providing a unique opportunity to network with local business leaders.


Expected Outcomes
• A successful 45th Anniversary Cocktail Reception that celebrates MACC’s legacy and fosters
community engagement.
• A professional event plan and portfolio-worthy marketing materials.
• Post-event feedback and a summary report that can inform future Chamber events.
• Valuable professional connections within the Matthews business and nonprofit community.
