Job Description
The Humane Society of Charlotte is dedicated to championing the well-being of companion animals and strengthening their bond with the people who love them. Through lifesaving adoptions, affordable veterinary services, community support programs, and education initiatives, we work to keep pets with their families and ensure every animal has the care they deserve. Our key programs include Have a Heart, providing medical care for pets in need; Spay It Forward, making spay/neuter services accessible; and the Pet Help Center, offering financial assistance, pet food, and other resources to prevent pet surrenders. Together, we’re building a more compassionate community for pets and people.
The Internship
The Philanthropy Intern will work on behalf of the Humane Society of Charlotte under the supervision of the Philanthropy Manager. This position supports the day-to-day work of the Philanthropy team while providing a hands-on, well-rounded learning experience in nonprofit development, organizational management, and animal welfare.
Learning Experience
The student will gain perspective into what is involved in the development side of a non-profit organization. The student will gain experience in marketing and social media through strategy and creation to boost viewership. They will gain learning experiences in event management and gain understanding into coordinating logistics while creating appealing and beneficial events. They will take a deep dive into grants managements and work on projects that will allow for an understanding of strategic donor prospecting and stewardship. Lastly, they will work closely with staff to identify and resolve database issues and maintain data hygiene standards in the CRM.
Outcomes
The goal of this internship is to support the philanthropy team while gaining a comprehensive understanding of development and fundraising through fully engaging in the work of the team. The intern will contribute to identifying new giving prospects and expanding potential audiences. By applying their unique perspective to fundraising and administrative work in animal welfare and the non-profit sector, the intern will play an active role in advancing the organization’s mission and vision through prospect research, donor stewardship, and administrative support.
