Job Description
Student Assistance and Support Services (SASS) fosters student retention and holistic success by empowering students to manage personal and academic challenges through self-advocacy, navigation of university processes, and utilization of campus resources.
The mission of the Dean of Students Office is to empower students by providing resources and opportunities to address their needs, remove barriers, and foster a culture of resilience, accountability, and personal growth.
Supervised by the Assistant Director for Case Management, the Graduate Assistant for Student Assistance and Support Services (SASS) serves as a paraprofessional staff member and assists in the non-clinical case management functions within the office; administrative duties of the various processes overseen by SASS; serves as a resource for various institutional stakeholders; and provides outreach to members of the University community. This position requires the flexibility, ability, and willingness to work in structured and unstructured settings with students, staff, and faculty.
SUMMARY OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide one-on-one support to students experiencing academic, personal, or situational challenges, utilizing a holistic, non-clinical case management approach
- Conduct needs assessments and develop individualized support plans, including referrals to campus and community resources
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of student interactions while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with institutional policies
- Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., academic advising, housing, counseling, student conduct) to coordinate care and promote student success
- Monitor student progress and conduct follow-ups to assess outcomes and adjust support strategies as needed
- Support SASS outreach initiatives, workshops, and educational programming related to student well-being and resource awareness
- Contribute to data tracking, reporting, and evaluation efforts to inform program effectiveness and continuous improvement
- Assist with the day-to-date operations of the office, including case maintenance and administrative support
- Assist with other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrolled in a graduate program for at least 6 credit hours, be in good academic and disciplinary standing, and have/maintain a 3.00 cumulative GPA
- Available to work 20 hours per week
- Participate in ongoing case management and office training sessions
- Assist with office programming and outreach efforts
- Able to interpret and implement various university policies and procedures
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, a collaborative communication style, strong interpersonal skills, and proven ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
- Strong organizational skills
COMPENSATION
- Compensation is based on 20 hours per week at $20 per hour over a 36‑week appointment period. The appointment typically runs from the first day of classes in August through graduation week in May.
