Job Description
The Graduate Assistant for Leadership Development will report to the Assistant Director for the Leadership & Community Engagement. This is a 20-hour per week position starting in early August and ending Mid-May. This position is dedicated to working with our leadership development programs, including but not limited to: students in the Leadership Journey Learning Community (LJLC), the PILOT certificate program, LEAD Team, and the TEDxUNCCharlotte program. This position will have a focus in planning, programming, recruitment and program/event management.
Primary Responsibilities of Position:
- Leadership Journey Learning Community (LJLC)
- Develop and attend a minimum of 1 event per month for students; meeting social and educational needs
- Attend LJLC events including retreats
- Manage and collaborate with the Peer Mentors to coordinate the end-of-year graduation.
- Oversee creation and grading of quizzes and reflections for the Freshmen Seminar and Leadership Classes
- Conduct and coordinate advising appointments for the students in LJLC
- PILOT Program Coordination

- Coordinates schedule and advertises programs

- Market PILOT to student groups and individuals

- Coordinate recognition of PILOT certifications in spring

- Provide digital signage updates for office
- LEAD Team

- Oversees the recruitment, selection and and training of UNC Charlotte LEAD Team
- Attends and participates in LEAD team meetings and retreats
- Coordinate LEAD Team presentations and workshops for PILOT
- Leadership and Community Engagement

- Assist with L&CE student employee holiday party

- Coordinate the L&CE Awards Banquet

- Assist with office projects, mailings, events, reception area staffing, etc

- Staff tables at Gold Rush welcome week, New Student Orientation (NSO) Resource Fair, and other resource fairs
- TedX UNC Charlotte

- Assist with reviewing speaker applications

- Coordinate marketing efforts for the event and speaker applications

- Assist with the management of the day-of event
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain an understanding of planning and developing effective programs
- Learn program management, program planning, and program assessment skills
- Develop an understanding of effective advising techniques
Minimum Qualifications and Experience Required:
Candidates must have/be:
- currently enrolled in a graduate program at UNC Charlotte. The position is available to graduate students of any major; however, there is a strong preference for education, leadership, and business
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
- Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, creative, and have the ability to work independently
- A passion for learning and leadership
- Public speaking skills
- Competent in various computer programs,
Preferred Qualifications:
Ideal candidates would have:
- Ability to interact and facilitate in front of large groups of people
- Direct experience with event planning
- Experience working with diverse student populations
