Job Description

About Teach For America North Carolina
Teach For America is a launchpad for early-career leadership rooted in service, learning, and community impact. In both TFA Ignite and the Corps, you’ll take on a paid role in a school where you’ll lead — by tutoring students or teaching full-time — while building trust with families, learning how to solve problems on the spot, and helping students succeed. You’ll grow the kind of leadership that comes from responsibility — not just watching, but doing. This experience helps you build confidence, skills, and purpose that prepare you to lead in any field, from education and policy to business and public service and make life-changing impact.

The Project
Project Scope: Future Educator Pipeline Builder (GIG Trainer) The GIG Trainer will support Teach For America North Carolina’s recruitment efforts by building and strengthening a diverse pipeline of future educators through both virtual engagement and strategic in-person outreach. This hybrid role is designed to increase brand awareness, deepen student relationships, and drive candidate conversion across key campuses, with a focus on UNC Charlotte and surrounding regions. Key Responsibilities: Campus Outreach & Engagement (Virtual + In-Person) Conduct consistent outreach to students through tabling, class announcements, student organizations, and digital engagement strategies to increase awareness of Teach For America and the Ignite Fellowship. Relationship Building & Pipeline Development Build authentic relationships with prospective candidates, particularly sophomores–seniors, student leaders, and those interested in education, equity, or community impact. Maintain ongoing communication to move students from interest to application. Event Support & Execution Plan and support recruitment events (info sessions, tabling activations, partnership events), with required attendance at 2–3 key regional or campus-based recruitment events to drive high-impact engagement. Candidate Coaching & Conversion Provide personalized follow-up and guidance to interested students, including sharing resources, answering questions, and supporting them through the application process for both Ignite and corps opportunities. Partnership Development Collaborate with campus partners (faculty, student orgs, career services) to embed Teach For America into existing spaces and expand reach through trusted networks. Data Tracking & Strategy Alignment Track outreach efforts, student engagement, and application progress, while aligning with regional recruitment goals and adapting strategies based on what’s most effective.

Learning Experience
Professional Skill Development Builds real-world experience in recruitment, marketing, event planning, and relationship management—highly transferable to careers in education, business, nonprofit, and beyond. Leadership & Ownership Takes the lead on campus strategy and outreach efforts, developing confidence in leading initiatives, managing projects, and driving measurable results. Expanded Network Gains access to a broad network of Teach For America staff, corps members, alumni, and campus partners—opening doors for mentorship and future opportunities. Resume-Building Experience Strengthens their resume with tangible outcomes (e.g., number of students engaged, applications generated, events executed), making them more competitive for future roles. Exposure to Education & Equity Work Deepens understanding of educational inequity and leadership in the education space, especially through exposure to programs like Ignite and the TFA corps. Flexible, Hybrid Work Experience Gains experience balancing virtual work with in-person engagement, building time management and adaptability skills. Coaching & Development from TFA Staff Receives ongoing support, feedback, and professional development from recruitment staff, helping them grow as a leader.
