Ausie & Martin Rivens Scholarship (AMRS)


The mission of AMRS, a 501c3-nonprofit, is to empower area youth by providing life skills workshops, providing food outreach, promoting continued education, and providing educational and financial assistance for future employment skills and entrepreneurial success. Past highlights include $20K donation in Chromebooks to area students, Angels in Pink Luncheon (in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month), Lake Norman Empowerment Festival, supports families of Title I schools, hosts food outreach events, Little Free Pantry, provides scholarships and supports domestic violence awareness and awarded more than $25K in scholarships over the past 19 years.

Our 19th annual Lake Norman Empowerment Festival is a FREE outdoor, family festival with area and national inspirational artists, a medical village, vendors, children's village and food for the entire family. Last year’s attendance was close to 4000. The event will be held at Smithville Park in Cornelius on September 27th.


The requested work includes reviewing measured outcomes, assisting with scheduling and tracking the festival’s impact, contacting partners, marketing suggestions and administrative support (phone calls, email correspondence, etc.).


The preferred student would be someone in marketing, communications or public relations. The hours would be four per week for 6-7 weeks. (24-28 hours) The benefits include acquiring hands-on experience producing a major event, marketing, oral and written communication skills, organization skills and leadership skills.


Expected outcomes include improving the tracking and measuring of festival data, improving the marketing proposal, increasing community support and tracking the impact of the event.
