Job Description
External Relations & Partnerships
The Internship
Student will assist the department of External Relations & Partnerships with administrative duties, research, presentations, and select departmental and campus events. The tasks and events within the External Relations & Partnerships are not necessarily cyclical. Tasks include:
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory activities related to the university
- Conducting corporate or policy research in designated areas
- Monitoring legislative issues and potential regulations impacting the university
- Watch or attend virtual committee meetings and provide summary
- Provide event support, including creating an invite list and invitation, event setup/teardown, managing event data entry
Learning Experience
Student will gain exposure to University leadership, elected officials and business leaders. In addition, student will gain tangible skills such as:
- Professional networking
- Verbal and written communication
- Project management
- Event coordination
- Time management
Internship will provide student with current, real-time exposure to the legislative process and will enhance the student’s understanding of political systems and external relations. Additionally, the student will work with the Corporate Engagement and Economic Development offices to support on-going and new projects.
Outcomes
Student will help advance the University's legislative priorities, support community relations and economic development initiatives, and building relations with corporate leaders in the Charlotte region. Ideal students will be able to network and be connect to additional intern/FTE opportunities in government and/or public sector organizations
