Job Description

Engineer II

Create detailed electrical system layouts, plans, material lists, and construction arrangement drawings for the build out and upkeep of utility transmission and distribution substation facilities.  

Develop design packages including general arrangement, ground grids, conduit layouts, elevation views, bill of materials, conduit schedule and equipment specifications. 

Engineer and design transmission lines that are safe, economical, and adhere to accepted engineer practices. 

Collaborate and provide technical direction to clients, peer engineers, designers, and drafters. 

Assist with scopes, estimates, schedules and proposals as necessary. 

Perform other job-related duties as assigned. 

 

Education, Skills, and Abilities Required 

Bachelor of Science in Engineering and 2+ years of experience working in the utility industry. 

Solid understanding of the utility grid (power generation, transmission and distribution) system.  

Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  

Ability to calculate forces acting on structures and equipment, resolve geometric and trigonometric problems to calculate geographical position and direction of forces.  

Maintains confidentiality and uses discretion with business information.  

Self-motivated, ability to work independently and in a team environment, reliable, trustworthy, and technically competent.  

Demonstrated time management skills.  

High level of computer and internet competency.  

Proficient user of Microsoft Office based applications.  

Ability to constructively manage multiple tasks.  

 

Skills and Abilities Preferred but not Required 

Transmission and Distribution Substation design experience.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions 

Physical Functions: Physical requirements involve performing general office activities. The role will also require the incumbent to sit for long periods of time.   

Working Environment: Indoor climate-controlled office environment.
