About the Internship
The World Trade Center Department (WTC) operates and maintains an iconic multi-functional destination that provides a vital transportation and economic connection to keep the region moving. The Project Delivery Division provides oversight and drives project delivery from conception to completion to ensure projects, in their respective programs, adhere to the determined scope and stay within the approved budget and schedule. The division is responsible for efficient portfolio management of projects including identifying, prioritizing, and organizing projects in conjunction with Facility Operations, Maintenance and Engineering; serving as a liaison between departments on project delivery issues; and maintaining overall program-level responsibility for Capital and Operating programs.
This internship offers students the opportunity to experience how projects that serve the public are planned, funded, designed and built. You won't just observe, you will be a part of the workflow that brings multi-million-dollar projects to life. You will experience fast-paced problem-solving, cross department collaboration and the dynamic environment of planning and construction.
Responsibilities

Assist with project planning and scoping by gathering site data, reviewing design drawings and understanding project objectives

Support project managers by attending coordination meetings and tracking action items

Observe job sites to get an understanding of construction progress and real-world application of design plans

Assist with updating project documentation including schedules, budgets, meeting minutes, preparing reports and other required documentation

Coordinate with consultants, project managers, internal and external stakeholders.

Identify, organize and prioritize projects in conjunction with Facility Operations and Engineering

Attain an understanding of how public projects get funding, how they are managed and built.

Present a summary of the internship activities and/or assigned project at the end of the internship program.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
-
Major in Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, Construction Management or related discipline
-
Intern will be required to obtain OSHA 10-hour training, with associated security clearances and NDA to obtain a WTC Site access Badge, immediately upon hiring.

The assignment will involve site-walks on WTC campus to back of house facilities, visit to construction sites, and field exposure that will consist of site inspection, tours, etc.
Desired Qualifications

Experience with Microsoft apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentations and public speaking

Basic understanding of Engineering and Architectural concepts of design (mechanical, electrical, civil, transportation and architecture).

Adaptability and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to learn quickly, ask questions and manage shifting priorities.

Curiosity, initiative and positive attitude with a genuine interest in public projects, project delivery and construction.
Internship Details

The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026

The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026

This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)

In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
