Job Description
OneIT provides for the technical infrastructure and support for the university. We provide over 300 services and manage over 10k endpoint computers. We provide common good services like email and file storage as well as specialized tools and services supporting academics, research and operations. See https://oneit.charlotte.edu.
The Project
The OneIT Student AI Fellow Program is a paid, hands-on opportunity for undergraduate students to gain real-world consulting experience starting in Summer 2026. Fellows will complete the Google AI Professional Certification and participate in a professional consulting bootcamp before partnering with a campus department to analyze workflows, identify AI efficiencies, and develop critical materials like prompt libraries and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Fellows will earn a stipend ($520 for 40 hours) and gain an industry-recognized credential, a portfolio-ready project, and direct experience working with campus leadership. Fellows will be at the forefront of responsible AI innovation on campus, using approved tools like Gemini and Copilot to drive change and operational improvements.
We will start this program with a summer pilot and a goal of 5 Fellows. We will expand the program in the fall and recruit 10 fellows and again in the spring with another 10 fellows (pending department interest)
Learning Experience
Students will lead AI enabalement at UNC Charlotte, gain the Google AI Professional Certification, develop a project for their portfolio and gain presentation skills through the end of term showcase.

The expected outcomes for the AI Fellows Program are:
Trained student AI Fellows with verified AI credential
Completed departmental AI projects
Documented workflow improvements and best practices
Deepening AI enablement within university units
