Position classification

Hybrid -- Job duties and expectations allow for onsite and remote work scheduled every week. Employees in this classification are regularly scheduled onsite one (1) to four (4) days per week based on the County needs and as determined by Department Director. Hybrid classified roles can be onsite more than the set minimum based on employee preference.

Looking to kickstart your career in public health and make a real difference? As a Public Health Communications Intern, you'll work with our Communicable Disease Epidemiology team to create engaging materials that inform communities, healthcare providers, and stakeholders about disease prevention and response. You'll gain hands-on experience designing webpages, crafting outreach materials, and developing media content-all while enjoying flexible hours, a hybrid work setup, and mentorship from experienced professionals.

• The anticipated hiring range for this position is $20/hour.

• Job duties and expectations require the employee to be onsite once per week and as needed.

• Continuing education opportunities and webinars.

Media Materials

• Talking Points for Press Releases and News Conferences

• Work with ACHD Communications team to develop reproducible content for communicable disease media releases to the public and populations in Adams County regarding outbreak responses, emerging infections, and health advisories.

Hard Copy Materials

• Fact Sheets

• One-page summaries on various diseases, including symptoms, prevention tips, and treatment options in word and picture format for the public.

• Accessibility:Ensure all materials are accessible to individuals with disabilities and available in multiple languages.

• Cultural Sensitivity:Tailor messaging to be culturally appropriate for different communities.

• Evaluation:Implement feedback mechanisms to assess the effectiveness of communication materials and strategies.

Using a combination of these resources, you can effectively communicate essential information about communicable diseases and promote public health awareness and action.

More Qualifications for Success

Experience: No formal experience required.

Education: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Public Health, Communications, Marketing, Epidemiology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bilingual in English and Spanish or other primary language spoken in Adams County.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Basic knowledge of public health issues and concepts.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Familiarity with graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.

• Standard office equipment includes but is not limited to, laptop computers, tablets and associated hardware and software, telephones, copiers, calculators, and audiovisual equipment.

• Break in Service Requirement - 13 weeks

Employees who work within the parameters below are eligible to participate in the the medical plan for the employee and child(ren) only as well as the 457b deferred compensation plan:

• Duration - At least 3 months and up to 12 months

• Weekly Hours - 30 or more

• Break in Service Requirement - 13 weeks
