Job Description
Drafters prepare technical drawings and plans. Drafters use software to convert the designs of architects and engineers into technical drawings. The Architectural Drafter will use an architect’s specifications to create detailed drawings for buildings and structures.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Uses computer-aided drafting (CAD) software to create full-scale and detailed designs of buildings and interiors from an architect’s rough drawings.
- Studies building codes and regulations and determines how they will affect architectural designs.
- Organizes structural, electrical, and mechanical designs.
- Draws plans for foundations, buildings, and structures based on instructions provided by engineers and architects.
- Visits jobsites to gather data needed to complete designs.
- Determines the types of materials needed and calculates the quantity to be ordered.
- Working with an architect, generates costs estimates, contracts, and other documents required for individual projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and other architectural drafting tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in Drafting preferred.
- Three years of related experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of construction sites.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
