Job Description

The World Justice Project’s (WJP) Access to Justice Research Team is seeking a full-time, paid intern for a minimum of six months with the possibility of extension for up to one year. This position will support WJP’s work developing evaluation tools that help decision makers as they implement justice reforms, as well as other research products in the access to justice agenda. This position is based in the WJP’s Washington, DC office. WJP maintains a hybrid work schedule, and employees are expected to live within commuting distance of the office and work in the office three days per week. This is a current vacancy with an immediate start.

Responsibilities:

The Access to Justice Intern will assist with the research, data analysis, and development of projects on access to civil justice and related themes. They may also assist with other thematic research as needed. The main responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

·      Supporting the development of evaluation tools that help decision makers implement justice reforms through Information and Communications Technology (ICTs).

·      Assisting with background research, literature reviews, quantitative analyses, and systematizing interview findings on justice needs, the use of ICTs in justice reform, and the institutional environment for justice reform.

·      Assisting with outreach activities by producing drafts of PowerPoint presentations and handouts, assembling external-facing materials, coordinating meeting logistics, and taking notes at meetings and other events.

·      Assisting with the production of the WJP’s research products centered on legal needs and access to justice. This includes conducting data checks, writing, copyediting, and design assistance.

·      Compiling resources and case studies on access to justice data and policies around the world.

·      Assisting with other special thematic projects as needed (e.g., access to justice and public health, rule of law, country-specific initiatives, etc.).

·      Providing general administrative support for WJP projects, including organizational work in Microsoft Excel and Word; assisting with calendar management and logistics for travel and meetings, and other office and logistical support duties.

·      Assisting with the copyediting, data checks, and production of other WJP publications as needed.

Qualifications:

·      Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (completed or currently pursuing) in public policy, law, political science, social sciences, economics, or related field.

·      Understanding of rule of law and access to justice issues in global and local contexts.

·      Knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint), with preference given to those with prior experience/proven ability managing large databases;

·      Highly dependable with the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

·      Excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

·      Ability to give and receive substantive feedback.

·      Preferably at least one year of professional experience, including internships.

·      Foreign language skills are a plus.

·      Experience with STATA or R is a plus.

·      Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

Location

The position will be based in the WJP Washington, DC office. WJP maintains a hybrid in-office/remote work schedule, with staff expected to work from the office at least three days per week.

Physical Requirements

While performing the responsibilities of the job, this person will frequently be required to use finger dexterity as well as sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. This person may need to remain seated for long periods of time, have the ability to perform repetitive motions, grasp objects, including a writing instrument, stand, communicate verbally and hear well enough to detect nuances, and receive detailed information. This person may be required to walk, push or pull objects, bend, squat, reach, or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for extensive reading. Working Conditions

The work conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. This person will typically work indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels.
