Job Description
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Special Olympics aims to combine high quality sports with a wide audience, and be a driving force for social inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.
The Internship
The intern will assist Special Olympics Mecklenburg County and Special Olympics North Carolina in recruiting volunteers and holding events. This could include:
- outreach via email, phone, social media, and in person at tabling or networking events.
- researching organizations that may be able to host events or provide volunteers or funding
- attending and serving in a leadership role at Camp or Events
- select data entry using a variety of databases
Learning Experience
Interns will learn to work with a variety of people within and outside the organization. They will contribute to team efforts to put on events attended by hundreds or even thousands of people. They will learn some of the administrative needs of an organization and have the opportunity to present on behalf of Special Olympics NC.
