Jamil Niner Student Food Pantry Media UPIP Intern
Leadership & Community Engagement
Position Description: One in three college students experiences food insecurity. If you’re passionate about helping others and addressing food insecurity on campus while working with volunteers in a leadership role, this internship is for you!
The Food Pantry Media UPIP Intern is primarily dedicated to promoting the Jamil Niner Pantry working with the Assistant Director of Leadership & Community Engagement and the Graduate Assistant. This position includes social media experience, public speaking skills, and working with volunteers and student clients. This is a 15-hour-per-week position starting in August 2023 and ending in early May 2024.
This internship is open to any major but would be an excellent opportunity for a Business, Public Administration, Public Health, or Social Work major.
Required Skills:
The person in this position must have:
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
- Strong grammar skills, detail-oriented, and time-management skills
- Public speaking skills
- Competent in various computer programs including Instagram, Canva, and Google Drive
- Must be willing to be Van Driver Certified
- Must be willing to become Food Safe Certified
Responsibilities:
- Works 15 hours per week at the JNSP from August 2023 - May 2024 (Currently, the pantry is scheduled to be staffed from 10:30-5:00 pm Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and intern hours would need to take place during that time for the majority of the time. Some hours may take place outside of this time as approved)
- Oversee JNSP Instagram account to promote the pantry, educate the campus community about student basic needs, and connect followers to campus and community resources
- Plans pantry promotional tables around campus with the Pantry Ambassadors and assists the Assistant Director with the Swipe Out Hunger campaign
- Assists with all daily operations at the Jamil Niner Student Pantry (JNSP) including email appointment reminders, tracking no-show clients, donations, volunteers, and shopping
- Works with volunteers, other interns, donors, and Leadership & Community Engagement (L&CE) staff to maintain the mission of JNSP
