Job Description
The First-Year and Transition Programs Office Assistants have the responsibility of helping to foster a sense of belonging for students and visitors to the department of First-Year and Transition Programs (FYTP). Additionally, Assistants will support students as they progress through UNC Charlotte. This includes engaging activities such as promoting and conducting meaningful events via social media, setting up outreach tables, working on specific projects associated with FYTP, as well as other duties as assigned. Presentations and program activities may be performed outside of the regular work hours from 9am-5pm (occasional evenings and weekends). In addition to office-support duties, Assistants will work with a specific program area (detailed below)
- Assistants work up to 20 hours per week with few evening and weekend hours. Assistants will schedule weekly office hours; Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm.
- Monthly social programming and social media engagement
- This position will be paid $13.00/hour for up to 20 hours per week
Program Areas:
- First-Generation
- Forty-Niner Intensive Transition Program (FIT)
- Assist with marketing and outreach for FIT program
- University Transition Opportunities Program (UTOP)
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a UNC Charlotte student
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements
- Positivity and willingness to assist with all FYTP initiatives
- Ability to design graphic media for a wide audience including students, staff and faculty with professional presentation materials and resources, utilizing Canva, Prezi and PowerPoint
- Interest in developing communication and leadership knowledge and skills
- Ability to work effectively with and without supervision
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Office Support
Assistants will assist with basic administrative functions of the office, including; filing and maintaining records, setup for events, maintaining the office space, telephone reception, maintaining a clean and orderly space and other duties as assigned. Assistants will also create a welcoming environment by assisting guests/students as they enter the space.
Outreach Activities
On occasion, Assistants will serve as tour guides to community based organizations who cannot be served by Admissions.
Program-Specific Work
Assistants will assist with the operations of their assigned program area. Responsibilities could include; event planning and engagement, recruitment, and the creation of marketing materials using Canva or other software.
