Job Description

Position Title: Guest Services Associate

Accountability: Guest Services Associate reports to Guest Services Manager

Job Classification: Seasonal, part-time, hourly, non-exempt. $11.50-$12.50 per hour plus tips.

About: Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden inspires a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences. The nearly 400 acres of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden provides visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature in all seasons. The property welcomes guests to spectacular gardens, a conservatory dedicated to the display of tropical plants and orchids, sparkling fountains, nearly 6 miles of trails and a dog park.

The Guest Services Associate will be able to work both in admissions and in the Garden Store.  At admissions, they will be responsible for executing the daily operations of Garden admissions, membership, and reservations. At the Garden store they will be responsible for the daily operations of the Garden Store and/or bar service. The Guest Services Associate will deliver superb customer service and exceed the highest quality standards in the day-to-day guest experience.  An ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, the desire and ability to serve our guests, and excellent customer service skills so to represent the organization in the highest form.

 

**This is a seasonal position from November through December. This position must be available to work weekday evenings and weekends.**

 

Responsibilities:

  • Understands the importance of each guest to the Garden and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way.
  • Admissions:
    • Provides exceptional admission services including membership, ticket sales, group sales, answer questions, and provide helpful visitor information.
    • Greets and fulfills requests by all guests while seeking opportunities to maximize their experience with the Garden including memberships, programs and events.
    • Provides and executes orientations for groups and garden visitors as needed.
    • Collaborates with event staff by facilitating introductions and orientations to private event attendees.
    • Provides up to date promotional and marketing materials to Garden guests.
    • Preforms opening procedures as provided by the Guest Services Manager.
    • Manages and maintains information systems for tracking guests, preferably through Altru.
    • Receives and handles cash and card transactions, counting change and accurately closing the register daily.
    • Conducts and maintains daily reports and closing procedures.
    • Preforms closing procedures as provided by the Guest Services Manager.
  • Garden Store:
    • Welcomes and serves visitors to the Garden Store, encompassing retail transactions, preparing coffee, pouring alcoholic beverages, promoting merchandise, and selling memberships to visitors.
    • Actively performs daily operational tasks to include but not limited to, merchandising, organization of displays, receiving of product, inventory and working with a point-of-sale system.
    • Greets and fulfills requests by all guests while seeking opportunities to maximize their experience with the Garden including memberships, and store merchandise.
    • Preforms opening and closing procedures as provided by the Guest Services Manager.
    • Receives and handles cash and card transactions, counting change and accurately closing the register daily.
  • Proudly maintains a professional work area, while always ensuring a professional presentation to the public.
  • Provides training to other staff on proper procedures as needed.
  • Supports all Garden programs and events.
  • Exemplifies the Garden Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals. 
  • Performs any other duties needed to help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our values. 

 

Requirements:

  • Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
  • Successfully pass a standard background review.
  • Must obtain the ABC Responsible Alcohol Seller/Server Training and Certificate before first shift executing the responsibilities of this position.
  • Must be willing to wear a uniform and work outside as needed.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, change oriented environment
  • Ability to work weekends, evenings, and some holidays.
  • Willing and able to acquire product knowledge fast to assist customers as needed.

Experience & Education:  

  • A minimum of a high school diploma, associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year in customer service or sales.
  • Experience in using Square and Microsoft Outlook preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team yet also independently. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, change oriented environment.
  • Ability to deal with problems and questions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a diverse audience.
  • Excellent customer service and telephone skills.
  • Ability to service visitors consistently in demanding situations.
  • Ability to assist multiple clients at the same time through multitasking.
