Job Description
This position will be a hands on, physically active opportunity for the student to learn
and perform basic maintenance procedures on fitness equipment, and interact with
UREC professional staff as well as other UREC student employees.
You will utilize basic hand/power tools, and electrical diagnosing equipment to perform tasks. In addition, there will be a variety of other assignments in the UREC facilities to assist with.
These may involve safely moving/transporting supplies/equipment, and performing
tasks on a 6' or 8' step ladder.
- Perform safety checks on fitness equipment in the Belk Gym and UREC
fitness spaces - Assist with upkeep/repair of fitness equipment to include periodic maintenance, removal,
and installation of parts - Assist with light maintenance tasks in UREC facilities
- Perform basic safety checks on UREC vehicles, assist with interior and exterior care of
vehicles - Assist in transporting materials and equipment utilizing moving equipment
- Assist in organizing and maintaining storage spaces in an orderly fashion
Must be a currently enrolled UNC Charlotte student. Additionally, must have been
awarded, and accepted, Federal Work Study funding as part of a financial aid package
as administered by the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Approximate Hours Per Week(Required) - 10 - 15
- The student technician will become very proficient in the identification and proper use of basic hand/power tools and will assist with the maintenance and repair of all types of fitness equipment to include checking nuts/bolts for proper torque specs, removing access panels for inspection/cleaning, oiling/lubing required areas, and checking for worn parts/cables/belts. In addition, this person will assist in facility operations such as moving/transporting equipment/supplies, and the interior/exterior care of UREC vehicles.
Expectations(Required)
- Able to work weekday early morning and afternoon hours. Report to work on time, have a good attitude, be energetic, able to follow instructions, and work independently when needed to accomplish assigned tasks. Complete training modules which apply to job duties and safety requirements.

Standing/walking 90% of time
Able to lift 50 lbs.
Working knowledge of hand tools a plus
