Job Description
Area 49 is the library’s collection of innovation spaces that facilitates innovative and creative learning by providing technology and equipment lending, research and design workspaces, and emerging technologies services. Area 49’s spaces include the Area 49 Desk, Makerspace, Gaming Lab, Visualization Lab, EZ Video Studio, Multimedia Lab, Photogrammetry Lab, and T3.
Student assistants will not only staff Area 49 Desk, but will also work on technology-based and creative projects designed to enhance the spaces themselves and Area 49’s instructional goals. Assistants will receive training in operating Area 49’s technology, including the 3D printers, large format printers, audio and video equipment loans, electronics kits, and more. Assistants will also provide general troubleshooting for library technology and provide assistance with copy/scan/print issues and general library questions.
Library student workers are also eligible to apply for the Shirley Derting Grubbs Student Employee Scholarship, which awards $10,000 to a library student worker who has worked in the library and plans to continue the position for the year after receiving the scholarship!
