Job Description
Title: Bethel Presbyterian Director of Children’s and Family Ministry
FLSA Status: Full-time, exempt
Purpose and Position Summary: Serve as the director and coordinator of all Bethel’s Christian
Education programs for ages 0-5th grade. Provide resources and training for families, teachers,
leaders, and advisors.
Direct Reports: Director of Bethel Weekday School, Sunday morning childcare workers.
Accountable to: Senior Pastor/ Head of Staff and the Session through the Christian Education
Committee.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Articulate and implement a vision for Children’s and Family Ministry that reflects Christ’s
love and grace as it is lived out in our relationship with Jesus Christ and one another.
• Meet monthly with the Christian Education staff and committee to pray and plan. Work
with them to choose/approve/purchase curriculum for preschool Sunday School,
elementary Sunday School, preschool chapel, Wednesday night Bible study, Junior
Worship.
• Direct and/or assist special events such as Confirmation, Communion Class, VBS/summer
camp, Trunk or Treat, Christmas programs, other fellowship, discipleship, and service
opportunities that may be developed for the children’s and family participation.
• Develop calendar/communications for events and a template for weekly communication to
parents, including using social media.
• Recruit, Train, and Support volunteers for all children’s programming.
• Maintain supplies and snacks provided on a weekly basis and for special events.
• Attend weekly staff meetings and submit monthly accountability reports to the Session.
• Work closely with the Pastor/Head of Staff, and fulfill other responsibilities as needed.
Work week
Generally Sunday - Thursday with special events notwithstanding.
Salary and Benefits:
Expected annual salary range is $50,000 to $60,000 per year and expected benefits include health
insurance; up to four weeks vacation and one week Continuing Education with $1,000 stipend.
Final salary and benefits to be determined based on person’s gifts, experience and qualifications.
Bethel Position Description for Director of Children’s and Family Ministry
Sunday Mornings and Wednesday Evenings
• Lead or Coordinate children’s messages for worship services.
• Prepare supplies for and coordinate staff and volunteers for the nursery, junior
worship (K-3rd grade) and Sunday School for all ages, 0-5th grade.
• Back up the volunteer Sunday School teachers and the Childcare workers when
needed (with advance notice).
• Lead and/or coordinate Wednesday evening programming.
Bethel Weekday School
• Gather and prep supplies for, and lead chapel weekly for the Bethel Weekday School.
• Meet weekly with the Director of Bethel Weekday School to cultivate a Christ-
centered culture in the classrooms, among the teachers, and in all interactions
between the church and the preschool families.
• Be present with Weekday School special events and create opportunities to connect
the church more deeply with the families and teachers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Ability to minister to and work with people of all ages in the area of Christian
Education.
2. Possess excellent skills in administration, organization, and communication.
3. Be self-motivated, self-directed, and a person of observable Christian character.
Credentials and Experience: Bachelor’s degree with focus on early childhood, or Christian
Education or equivalent experience. Two to four years’ experience working in the area of Children’s and Family Ministry.
Special Requirements: Must exhibit a life surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and
recognize that Children’s and Family ministry is about bringing people of all ages to a
relationship with Him.
Must be in agreement with and shall affirm the Essential Tenets of the Covenant Order of
Evangelical Presbyterians (ECO).
