Marketing Intern

Out of the Box Advisors

Internship
Closes on Friday, September 4, 2026

Job Description

Marketing Intern

Out of the Box Advisors is looking for a creative, dependable Marketing Intern who enjoys turning ideas into content people actually want to read! This role will support our internal marketing and client marketing projects, with a strong focus on social media and blog content creation.

The primary responsibility of this internship will be creating content for Out of the Box Advisors and our clients. Our team will provide the ideas, direction, and brand guidance for each business. The intern will turn those ideas into completed social media captions, graphics, and blog content that match each company’s style, tone, and voice.

This internship is designed to give students the chance to take what they’ve learned in the classroom and put it to work in the real world. You’ll gain hands-on experience in marketing, communications, writing, design, branding, and small business strategy while working on actual projects for real businesses. Along the way, you’ll build practical, transferable skills such as content creation, adapting to different brand voices, professional communication, creative problem-solving, and incorporating feedback. These are skills that will serve you well whether you pursue a career in marketing, communications, public relations, business, or a field that hasn't even been created yet.

This is a great fit for someone who likes variety, can shift between different brand voices, and enjoys making marketing feel clear, useful, and a little more human (and a lot less em dashes!) One day you may be crafting social media posts and images for a roofing company, and another day you may be writing a blog for a dog trainer. If you like learning how different businesses talk to their customers and target audience, you’ll probably have fun here!

About Out of the Box Advisors

Out of the Box Advisors is a down-to-earth small business coaching company that avoids corporate jargon like people avoid eye contact with that perfume kiosk salesman. We work with business owners who are juggling a lot: growth, operations, leadership, marketing, team issues, and all the other fun little surprises that come with running a business. Our job is to help them step back, get clear, and build practical plans they can actually use.

Coaching is at the heart of what we do, but we also support small businesses with marketing services that help them communicate more clearly, reach the right people, and show up consistently. That may include marketing strategy, audits, social media content, blog content, brand messaging, campaign ideas, and other creative support.

As a Marketing Intern, you will get hands-on experience creating content for real small businesses while learning how coaching, marketing strategy, brand voice, and client communication all work together to support business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Create social media captions based on provided ideas, direction, and brand guidance.
  • Design social media graphics/images that align with each business’s brand style and voice.
  • Draft blog content based on provided topics, outlines, or direction.
  • Help turn blog topics into clear, engaging, easy-to-read content for small business audiences.
  • Adapt writing tone and visual style for different client industries and audiences.
  • Follow brand guidelines, examples, and feedback from our team.
  • Organize completed content clearly for review and approval.
  • Make edits as requested before final approval.
  • Assist with other marketing-related projects as opportunities arise, which may include basic research, content planning support, campaign ideas, email content, or marketing materials.

Learning Objectives

  • Through this internship, the student will learn how to apply marketing, communications, writing, and design concepts in a professional setting.
  • The intern will learn how to create marketing content for different types of businesses, industries, audiences, and platforms.

  • The intern will learn how to turn content ideas, outlines, and direction into finished posts, graphics, and written pieces.
  • The intern will learn how to receive, apply, and respond to professional feedback through the content revision process.
  • The intern will learn how small businesses use marketing to build trust, educate customers, communicate value, and stay visible.
  • The intern will learn how to balance creativity with brand guidelines, deadlines, and client needs.

Supervision and Feedback

The Marketing Intern will be supervised by a professional team member who will give direction, examples, and brand guidance for assigned projects. The intern will receive routine feedback on their work, including edits, revision notes, and guidance to help improve writing, design, tone, and overall content quality.

Regular check-ins will be scheduled to review job performance and assignments, answer questions, discuss progress, and connect the internship work back to the student’s professional and academic goals.

Resources Provided

Out of the Box Advisors will provide the tools, resources, and guidance needed to complete internship assignments remotely. This may include access to brand guidelines, content ideas, project instructions, examples of past work, client voice/tone direction, shared folders, communication tools, and design resources such as Canva or similar platforms when needed.

The intern will not be responsible for posting, scheduling, publishing, or managing social media accounts. Completed work will be reviewed by the Out of the Box Advisors team before being used.
