Gig: Interfaith Friendsgiving
UNC Charlotte Gig Training Program
Campus Internship
Closes on Friday, August 14, 2026
Job Description
We're a network of 11 different faith groups in Mecklenburg County, NC (Bahá’í, Buddhist, Christian, Christian Science, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Quaker, Science of Mind, Sikh, and Unitarian Universalist) working to help people know and be known, love and be loved so that we might be good neighbors to one another. MeckMIN connects people across lines of difference to build understanding, collaboration, and love for one another. For nearly 40 years, we’ve strengthened Mecklenburg County’s social fabric, supported our most vulnerable neighbors, and created a community where everyone feels welcome, valued, and able to contribute their gifts.
The Project
On Thursday November 16, 2026, we'll host our third annual Interfaith Friendsgiving event, a celebration of the rich tapestry of faiths, cultures and traditions that make up Mecklenburg County. We're looking for a student who will help us reach out to various cultural communities in the city to invite them to participate by creating and staffing a display table about their culture or a particular aspect of it. The outreach could include (based on student interest) such things as - Research into local cultural groups. One-on-one relationship building with those groups. Social media Promotion. We'd also like for the student to attend the event and help make connections between the groups with the displays and the general attendees.
Learning Experience
The student will have the opportunity to get to know more about the religious and cultural diversity of Mecklenburg County. They will learn to use and/or develop effective one-on-one and group outreach skills. They will gain experience in event planning.
Outcomes
Last year we had six faith or cultural groups to offer displays. This year we'd like to double that and have 12 groups, which can certainly include some or all of the groups who came last year.
