University Recreation
The Internship
Capture programs, events, and the overarching life of the University Recreation community
through the lens of visual design, photography, and/or videography
● Maintain a working knowledge of all University Recreation programs and services
● Upkeep strong partnerships with other student employees and colleagues
● Deliver quality customer service to all patrons, program participants, partners, and visitors
● Other duties and projects as assigned
Learning Experience
Through this role, the student will gain hands on experience in visual storytelling, content creation, and brand representation within a collegiate recreation setting. By capturing programs, events, and the overall University Recreation experience through photography, videography, and design, the student will develop technical skills in media production as well as an understanding of how visual content supports marketing, engagement, and community building.
The student will enhance their communication and interpersonal skills by collaborating with professional staff and student employees, while also building strong working relationships across program areas. Through consistent interaction with patrons and participants, the student will develop customer service and problem solving skills in a fast paced, service oriented environment.
Additionally, the student will gain a comprehensive understanding of University Recreation programs and operations, allowing them to connect their creative work to broader departmental goals. This experience will support the development of transferable skills including time management, adaptability, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple projects, preparing the student for future careers in marketing, media, recreation, or related fields.
Outcomes
Through employment with University Recreation, the Media Specialist will:
● Develop collaboration and communication skills through a hands-on, community approach
to content development within our media team
● Understand how to successfully balance work with other obligations to maintain personal
health and wellbeing
● Refine a strong personal production process in your work that transcends academia,
simulating a fast-paced professional environment
