MECHANICAL ENGINEERING INTERN (FALL 2024 - ROTATIONAL)

MGM Brakes, a division of Indian Head Industries, Inc., is the leading supplier of spring brake actuators and service chambers for domestic and global truck, trailer, bus and specialty vehicles for the commercial vehicle industry. We are currently seeking a highly enthusiastic individual for our Mechanical Engineering Intern (Rotational) position, located in our Charlotte, N.C. corporate office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This full-time Mechanical Engineering Intern position is part of a rotational program that allows you to gain insight and experience over the course of a 12-week period alternating through various Engineering disciplines. Some tasks performed by the Intern will include documenting design changes, scanning parts and assemblies, using Metrology measuring equipment, and assisting with product testing. Other responsibilities will include providing a variety of administrative related assignments to support ongoing engineering projects. Additionally, the intern may visit the MGM Brakes manufacturing facility in Murphy, NC to participate in industrial studies and operational improvement activities with other Engineering team member(s).

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • High School Diploma is required and must be enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology program at a university or college
  • 3.0 GPA or higher and Junior year or equivalent credit hours is required
  • Ability to use 3D CADD, AutoDesk Inventor & Vault is preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office Programs
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage workload
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with tact and professionalism
  • Ability to maintain confidential or sensitive data

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:

  • Assist in documenting design changes to current product using 3D CADD,  AutoDesk Inventor & Vault
  • Scan parts and assemblies with a 3D scanner. Create inspection plans using Geomagic and Inspection Expert software
  • Metrology Lab assignments using precision measuring equipment
  • Assist the Engineering Test (Technology Lab) Department following test procedures and accurately reporting your findings. This is hands on work that can include hand tools, cutting tools, and field returns
  • Work directly with project team leaders who will determine the involvement and duties regarding calculations, analysis, testing, and reporting
  • Create drawings to refine and improve tools used to manufacture spring brake actuators
  • May attend Engineering meetings as requested
  • Collaborate with other departments regarding Engineering assignments and projects as needed
  • All other duties as assigned
