Job Description

The Office of Disability Services seeks one (1) Master's Level student to join our team! Disability Services works to ensure that students with disabilities have access to education and campus life at UNC Charlotte.  The DS Test Center is designed to support students with disabilities and their faculty by providing testing accommodations in an inclusive, welcoming environment. This position is for Spring 2025 full term, with an anticipated start date of December 2, 2024, for a training period. If a good fit, the position will continue for additional semesters. Anticipated Start Date: December 2, 2024.


POSITION SUMMARY: The primary role of the Graduate Program Assistant(s) in Testing Services is to assist the Academic Testing Coordinator with the daily operations of the Test Center. The team works collaboratively to help ensure that students with disabilities who qualify for testing accommodations receive appropriate testing accommodations in an inclusive and accessible environment. 


AVAILABILITY: Hours of Operation: M/T/W/F, 8:00 - 5:00 PM and TH 8:00-6:00 PM. Applicant must be available a minimum of 20 hours per week, including the weeks of final exams during Spring 2025. Depending on schedules and demands, additional hours beyond 20 may be possible during final exams. Hours of operation during finals are longer and include one Saturday. Actual work schedule will be determined in conjunction with all the Test Center student employees.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Academic Testing Coordinator and the Office of Disability Services Director, the Graduate Program Assistant will assist with the coordination of testing services for students with disabilities, including administrative tasks, test proctoring, and interaction with examinees, faculty, and staff. Position requires strong organizational skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to problem-solve quickly. Applicant must be able to give excellent customer service by acting with integrity, responsibility, and courtesy. The office uses test scheduling software specific to the functions of disability services offices, and training will be provided.


Position Duties:

* Check students in as they arrive at the DS Test Center.
* Maintain a clean and quiet atmosphere for testing.
* Assist in the distribution, collection, and return of test materials, including printing and scanning, in an organized and secure manner.
* Actively proctor exams and monitor video surveillance software to help ensure test security. Note that proctoring can include scribing for a student.
*  Monitor and respond to incoming Disability Services' Test Center emails from students and faculty.
* Answer calls related to testing and/or contact faculty or departments regarding testing issues.
* Work with students in need of accessible materials (large print/Braille/etc.), technology, or software.
* Maintain confidentiality and security of testing materials.
* Communicate any issues to the Testing Coordinator and/or Director.
*  May assist staff in representing Disability Services at campus outreach events, which may take place on weekends or after hours. 
* Other duties and special projects deemed reasonable and necessary by the DS Team.

The position is on-campus only and is not suitable for remote work.
