Job Description

In collaboration with the University Social Media Team, the Social Media Content Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of content creation for all social media channels operated by UCOMM.
  • Social Media Video Production: Execute end-to-end video creation (planning, filming, editing, color grading, captioning, etc.) for flagship channels, executing both highly polished planned content and trend-based, quick-turn content.
  • Photography & Visual Design Execution: Capture high-quality photo assets for social channels in both staged and organic settings; produce clean, brand-aligned graphics, overlays, and templates to support social campaigns.
  • Real-Time Event Capture & Quick-Turn Delivery: Attend campus events, traditions, and live opportunities to capture and deliver same-day or next-day photo and video content that highlights campus culture and student life.
  • Shoot Logistics & Talent Coordination: Coordinate production details with featured subjects (students, faculty, leadership, alumni), including securing shoot locations, setting up camera/audio gear, providing script/attire guidance, and managing on-set flow.
  • Equipment & Digital Asset Management: Maintain departmental social media production gear (cleaning, charging, logging, and booking); organize and archive raw and finished video/photo files using established naming conventions and digital asset management systems.
  • Visual Identity Application: Apply Charlotte Social’s visual editing identity across all produced media, maintaining set standards for color grading, typography, closed captioning, and brand presentation.
  • Creative Collaboration & Concept Pitching: Partner with social media managers to review asset performance, test new visual content styles, and pitch creative video and photo concepts for upcoming university initiatives.

Other Work Responsibilities
  • Perform administrative tasks related to equipment maintenance, software updates, or specialized production needs as assigned.
  • Assist in guiding student workers, interns, or peer contributors on camera operation, audio setup, and basic video editing workflows.
  • Participate in department-wide meetings, team creative sessions, and relevant professional development opportunities.
  • Provide backup technical support for broader UCOMM live streaming, emergency communications, or university-wide media capture during major campus events.
