Job Description
Student Technicians are initially hired as Operators. Operators are
responsible for the set-up and tear down of events, general
equipment maintenance, and basic operation of all technical
systems. Operators perform operation of audio, video,
display, or lighting systems.
These technicians are considered to be entry level, and must go
through training processes before
operating technical equipment. These technicians handle basic
elements of live events and productions, and are the primary
technicians assigned to areas where technical
equipment is used.
Responsibilities
• Work as a Student Technician in the Student Activity Center, Halton Arena, and
other Athletic facilities as assigned.
• Perform general maintenance of equipment as assigned by supervisor;
including cleaning, repairing, and organizing.
• Used as general labor for event load-ins and load outs. Assisting with the set-up of major audio, video, and lighting systems. This position often takes guidance from
other, more senior, Student Technicians and their Supervisor to set-up audio
speaker systems, LED and conventional lighting rigs, projectors/screens, and
video distribution.
• Expected to use basic tools such as screw drivers, hammers, and drills, to ensure
that equipment is set-up, rigged, and used properly.
• Expected to go through training and certification programs so that a broader
technical knowledge can be acquired.
• Perform basic administrative tasks.
• Work in close proximity with customers in hospitality areas and provide basic audio
and video services in those areas.
• Operate audio, video, and lighting systems for major events in Halton Arena and
Jerry Richardson Stadium. This includes, but is not limited to, Men’s/Women’s
Basketball Games, Football Games, Volleyball Games, Baseball Games, Concerts, Student Organization and Community events, Commencement, Convocation,
International Festival, and various Athletic Non-Competition events.
• Provide technical services with a strong customer-service mentality and
enforce/comply with the policies and procedures of Venue Management, Charlotte Athletics and the Technical Services Department.
