Job Description

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science is recruiting two Academic Advisors to assist transfer students and second- through senior-year students in their educational goals. Advisors must have the ability to work autonomously in a complex, team-oriented academic office with a significant advising caseload. The following list provides examples of the most typical duties for the advisor position.
  • Provide academic advising to second-year through senior-year students (including transfers and matriculated first-time-in-college students) majoring in Mechanical Engineering
  • Review the degree progress of seniors for anticipated degree completion
  • Review transfer credits and develop advising plans for new transfer students
  • Process academic petitions to resolve transfer credits, requests for transient study, and other academic needs
  • Assist with new student orientation
  • Advise students regarding Major course requirements, course selection, academic policies and procedures, and academic resources.
  • Track and intervene with students who have received multiple Early Alerts or midterm warning grades to assist them in adopting strategies for academic success.
  • Guide the understanding and sequencing of academic requirements, navigating academic policies and procedures, developing long and short-term goals, preparing for course selection and registration, and monitoring academic performance and degree progression.
  • Monitor and advise students experiencing academic difficulty and/or those on academic probation
