Job Description
MeckEd works to ensure that ALL students in Mecklenburg County have access to the knowledge, skills and experiences necessary to lead productive, successful lives. We seek to provide solutions for ALL students to navigate life and achieve career success.
MeckEd has a long history of supporting public education in Mecklenburg County. Today, our focus is working with students to provide them with the support, experiences and skill development to prepare them for successful careers. We provide services on-site in Title I, CMS schools and during out-of-school time throughout the community.
Position Description:
The Community Internship is designed to help drive MeckEd’s mission by supporting programming and organizational operations.
Learning Experience:
- Interns will work with their supervisor to set personal and professional goals at the beginning of the internship
- Opportunities to shadow staff
- Attendance at meetings and trainings, where appropriate
- Opportunities to meet with Executive Leadership and Board Members that align with personal and professional goals
- Opportunity to present to Board of Directors
- Structured mentorship from a supervisor dedicated to providing guidance, support and regular feedback
- Opportunities to contribute to program and organizational operations decisions
- Engagement with students, families and community and industry partners
Expectations:
- 5-10 hours/week, specifics to be determined by student and supervisor
- 10-12 week internship, specifics to be determined by student and supervisor
- Set personal and professional learning goals with supervisor and adjust responsibilities accordingly
- Completion of all assignments and projects identified by supervisor
- Contribute meaningfully to program and operations decision making
- Maintain a positive, professional attitude and appropriate relationships with team, students, families, volunteers, partners and community members
- Completion of training needed to work effectively with students
- End of service learnings and feedback presentation to Leadership Team
Responsibilities:
Career Pathways Program Support
- Assist Career Pathways program staff in managing workforce development programming logistics and facilitation (workshops, trainings, field trips, college tours, special events, etc.)
- Assist in matching students with internship opportunities and supporting employment experiences, including working with students, family members, school staff, community partners and employers
Operations Support
- Data Management
- Assist in collecting, entering and analyzing student demographic, academic and program participation data
- Assist in collecting, entering and analyzing organizational performance and outcome data
- Marketing & Community Engagement
- Create content for organizational social media, including taking event photos/videos
- Create content for newsletters and blog posts for use in marketing and fundraising
- General Operations
- Assist in meeting and event preparation
- General office administration and project management support
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- High level of maturity and sound judgment in order to work effectively leading and guiding high school students
- Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with diverse populations (Students & families, school staff, business partners, volunteers, etc.) verbally and in writing
- Strong work ethic
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience collecting, analyzing and managing data
- Experience managing social media platforms, content creation, and/or photography/videography
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
- Prior work experience
- Experience with target populations
- Strong technology skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
