Job Description

SUMMARY

USA for UNHCR, a certified Great Place to Work non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, DC, is excited to announce its annual Internship Program for Summer 2025. USA for UNHCR’s vision is “A world where every person forced to flee can build a better future.” and its mission is to protect and support refugees by mobilizing resources, elevating awareness, and driving action through a network of engaged supporters.

The Private Philanthropy team is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as an intern, assisting with expanding our connections to committed donors. This role will involve deepening relationships through personal outreach and helping secure significant financial support for UNHCR's humanitarian efforts worldwide. The internship is a 10-week program offering valuable opportunities to contribute to USA for UNHCR’s mission and vision.

This opportunity is open to undergraduate students pursuing degrees or equivalent coursework in marketing, communications, or nonprofit development. The intern will work closely with the Private Philanthropy team, participating in various programmatic activities. This paid internship runs from June 2, 2025, to August 8, 2025. The position is hybrid, requiring in-office work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and remote work on Monday and Friday. The intern must be available for the entire 10-week duration. The internship is based at our office in New York, NY. Room and board are not included.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support outreach efforts to mid-level (donors contributing $1,000 to $9,999) and major donors (donors contributing $10,000 or more)
  • Conduct research on mid-level and major donor prospects
  • Assist in event planning and support the Private Philanthropy team’s cultivation and stewardship activities
  • Collaborate on ideas to engage private donors and support new initiatives, including work with women in philanthropy
  • Track, analyze, and report on data using Salesforce
  • Learn about UNHCR's global humanitarian programs
  • Attend the Private Philanthropy team retreat in Washington, DC
  • Perform other tasks as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to be a quick and eager learner
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and database programs
  • Demonstrates passion; the willingness to go the extra mile and stellar customer service
  • Well organized, and proven ability to multi-task and manage their time
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrates passion for USA for UNHCR’s mission
  • Be able to identify and resolve problems promptly and gather and analyze information skillfully

COMPENSATION

$18 per hour
