Job Description
The Forty-Niner Intensive Transition (FIT) Peer Mentors have the responsibility of welcoming students to UNC Charlotte and their respective cohorts, and supporting them as they progress through FIT. This includes engaging activities such as recruiting FIT participants, setting up outreach tables, presenting to FIT students, critiquing student assignments, facilitating study sessions, conducting fun events on- and off-campus, assisting with class instruction, working on specific projects associated with FYTP and other duties as assigned. Presentations and program activities may be performed outside of the regular work hours from 9am-5pm due to the intensive nature of the program (evenings and weekends).
- Peer Mentors work up to 40 hours per week with some evening and weekend hours. Peer Mentors will schedule weekly office hours; Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm.
- The bulk of work will occur August 8th – August 15th for the in-person, synchronous phase of FIT programming and instruction. Additional responsibilities begin in the summer and extend through the mini-fall semester.
- Peer Mentors are expected to register for a 1 credit, half semester course in Spring 2026 as part of their training. The course is scheduled for Wednesdays at 4:00-5:15pm starting on March 18, 2026.
- FIT is composed of several cohorts, each with its own needs and parameters that may vary from one to the next. Some work tasks and work time frames may also vary. Each cohort has a Coordinator who determines cohort specifics, including final say on Peer Mentor hiring.
