About the Internship
The Engineering Department is looking for a Traffic Engineering intern to join their team! The Engineering Department provides high quality and cost-effective engineering and architectural design services in a timely manner and in conformance with applicable codes, regulations, and Port Authority technical standards to deliver the Capital and Operating Programs to our client departments.
Responsibilities

Perform field investigations, inventories, and data collection throughout various PA facilities.

Assist in studies to improve traffic flow for motorists and pedestrians.

Support project teams by preparing basic documents, spreadsheets, drawings, and presentation materials.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
-
Major in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation

Valid Driver's License (field work is required at various Port Authority facilities)
Desired Qualifications
-
Undergraduate students entering Junior or Senior Year preferred; highly motivated Sophomore-level students with an interest in Traffic Engineering will also be considered

Ability to create and update drawings using AutoCAD

Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and organization skills
-
Experience with Microsoft Office apps such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.

Excellent written and oral communication skills
-
Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region

Interest in public service and/or transportation
-
Willingness to learn and collaborate
Internship Details

The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026

The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
-
This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)

In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts businessand regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
