Job Description

Maker Mindz is a Charlotte-based non-profit organization dedicated to making hands-on STEM education engaging, accessible, and practical. Through interactive workshops, hands-on learning kits, and undergraduate mentorship, we empower K-12 students to explore STEM concepts by doing.

Position Overview

We are seeking energetic UNC Charlotte undergraduate student majoring in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Physics, Education, or related technical fields to join our team as On-Site AI & STEM Instructors.

In this role, you will lead hands-on workshops for high school students, introducing foundational Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and coding concepts through interactive, project-based activities. You will also serve as a college mentor, guiding high schoolers as they explore STEM pathways and transition into college programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • On-Site Instruction: Facilitate engaging, hands-on AI and coding workshops for teens and high school students at partner locations across the Charlotte area.

  • Mentorship: Serve as a approachable college mentor, helping students connect K-12 STEM learning to college majors and career opportunities.

  • Kit & Activity Setup: Prepare, manage, and troubleshoot hands-on teaching materials, interactive web apps, and AI/coding tools used during sessions.

  • Hands-On Projects: Guide students through hands-on projects, such as creating simple AI models, developing basic algorithms, and experimenting with machine learning tools that demonstrate how AI works in everyday life.
  • Student Engagement: Maintain an inclusive, encouraging learning environment where students feel motivated to build, test, and ask questions.

  • Feedback & Collaboration: Work with us to refine curriculum materials and report on workshop progress.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Current UNCC Student: Currently enrolled undergraduate student in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Education, or a related discipline.

  • Technical Background: Basic understanding of Python, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning concepts, or web-based coding tools.

  • Teaching / Leadership Passion: Experience or strong interest in teaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or mentoring youth (high school / teen focus preferred).

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts in simple, accessible ways.

  • Reliable Transportation: Ability to travel to partner community centers and schools in the Charlotte metro area for on-site sessions.

  • Background Check: Successful completion of a background check required for working with minors.
