Job Description

Faculty work should synthesize contemporary issues and design practice as critical modes of inquiry at multiple scales. The faculty member’s work should demonstrate how design can engage the complex ecologies of cities, addressing critical urban issues such as climate change, adaptive infrastructures, and community resilience. The successful candidate is expected to employ innovative methods—such as computational, data-based, and/or participatory processes—that expand the ways we understand and shape urban environments. The candidate should approach the urban as a global condition and demonstrate familiarity with a diverse array of urban design, architectural design, and research methods. Strong applicants will have experience teaching design studios, a record of relevant and transdisciplinary research or practice, a commitment to design as a critical tool for shaping urban conditions, and an ability to address general education coursework when needed. Candidates whose work bridges research and practice are especially encouraged to apply.
