About the Internship

Tunnels, Bridges & Terminals Department (TB&T) connects the road networks of NY and NJ through tunnels, bridges, and interstate bus terminals that permit people and goods to move safely, efficiently, and conveniently while generating net income for the Port Authority's ongoing operations and investment needs.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with team members on specific projects with the potential to be involved in a wide range of project-related work including presentation graphics, and review of construction documents.

  • Assist Project Managers in preparing authorization documents and presentations, preparing/updating project schedules and budgets, preparing progress meeting agendas and notes, organizing site visits and investigating/resolving field issues.

  • Assist Unit Managers in the consolidation of various reporting documents

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship

  • Major in Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Desired Qualifications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience with Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and One Drive.

  • Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region.

  • Interest in public service and/or transportation.

  • Boldness to apply for this internship even if you don't exactly meet the minimum qualifications but believe you can add value to our group.

  • Willingness to learn.

  • Expressed interest in a career directed towards Engineering, Construction, Infrastructure Project Management, or Architecture.

Internship Details

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026

  • The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026

  • This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)

  • In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
