Organization Profile
Fight the Flame (FTF) is a nonprofit organization committed to raising awareness, supporting research, and advocating for individuals impacted by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). Through collaborations
with healthcare professionals, researchers, and advocates, FTF aims to foster understanding and empathy for CRPS, a chronic pain condition that significantly impacts quality of life. Our initiatives focus on public
education, patient support, and community engagement to build a more informed society and support those living with CRPS.
Project Description
The “Spreading Awareness about Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)” project will engage student interns to conduct interviews with 50 individuals affected by CRPS, including patients, family members, and caregivers. These interviews will be recorded and transformed into a series of video clips and
transcripts to be shared in a social media awareness campaign. By capturing and sharing firsthand experiences, this project aims to highlight the daily challenges and resilience of those affected by CRPS, fostering understanding and empathy among viewers.
Project Scope
This project includes several phases: research and preparation, interviewing, content production, editing, and social media campaign development. Interns will participate in each step, from preparing interview
questions and filming to editing and posting final content.
Preferred Student Demographic and Qualifications
We seek motivated college students, ideally in fields such as journalism, media studies, communications, psychology, or health sciences.
Preferred qualifications include:
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Basic video production and editing experience
• Interest in healthcare advocacy and patient stories
• Ability to handle sensitive topics with empathy and professionalism
Hours Required for Completion
Interns will be expected to commit approximately 4-6 hours per week over a 6-week period. Total project hours may vary depending on individual roles but are expected to range between 25–35 hours for completion.
Student Benefits and Learning Experience
Participation in this project offers a unique opportunity for students to develop skills in interviewing, storytelling, and content production. Interns will gain firsthand experience in healthcare advocacy, learning
how to approach sensitive topics and represent real-life experiences with respect and impact. They’ll also gain insights into social media strategy and nonprofit communications. This experience will enhance interns’ abilities in multimedia production, project management, and public health advocacy, providing valuable skills for future careers in journalism, healthcare, social work, and communications.
Expected Outcomes
By the end of this project, students will have:
• Conducted and recorded interviews that provide a rich narrative about living with CRPS
• Produced high-quality video segments that will be launched as part of a comprehensive social media awareness campaign
• Gained hands-on experience in video editing, public relations, and campaign planning
• Contributed to a meaningful cause, helping to amplify the voices of those affected by CRPS and creating lasting impact through their work
