Venture Outdoor Leadership
The Internship
The purpose of the position is to support the leader development and community connection programs for Venture Outdoor Leadership. You will work under the direction of the associate director to coordinate Venture’s Mentor Program, VOLT Connections community events, and assist, as needed, with Introduction to Outdoor Adventures.
Learning Experience
You will have a comprehensive learning experience centered on communication, leadership, and initiative. Interns will strengthen both written and verbal communication skills by coordinating with student and professional staff, promoting programming, and facilitating educational opportunities that advance Venture’s mission. Through regular collaboration and debrief meetings, you will learn to communicate effectively in professional contexts while reflecting on program outcomes. The role also develops leadership capacity, as interns are responsible for organizing workshops and community events, motivating peers, and fostering engagement across the program. In doing so, they will gain an appreciation for leveraging the strengths and expertise of others to create meaningful learning experiences. Additionally, you will cultivate initiative by designing and implementing new ideas that enhance professional development and community-building efforts. From concept to evaluation, this experience builds critical skills in creativity, self-direction, and continuous improvement that are essential for future professional success.
Outcomes
1- Demonstrate professional communication skills by effectively coordinating with student and professional staff, facilitating class activities, and serving as a reliable point of contact for participant questions and program information.
2- Apply leadership in group and program settings by organizing and facilitating team-building initiatives, guiding peer mentor pairs, and fostering engagement across classes and community events.
3- Design and implement meaningful programs by planning and executing VOLT Connections events and contributing to course delivery, moving initiatives from initial concept through evaluation.
4- Develop mentorship and coaching capacity by supporting peer mentor relationships, holding participants accountable, and providing guidance that enhances student connection and development.
5- Utilize initiative and reflective practice by identifying opportunities for program improvement, preparing intentional agendas, and engaging in regular debriefs to strengthen future programming.
6- Gain experience in recruitment and selection processes by engaging with prospective students, supporting hiring efforts, and participating in interviews and selection activities.
