Job Description

As a member of the Popp Martin Student Union and Cone University Center Staff, you play a large role within the Division of Student Affairs at UNC Charlotte.

Audio Visual Technicians are responsible for the set-up, operations, and strike of audio visual equipment requested for events including but not limited to microphones, mixers, speakers, projectors, screens, lighting, televisions, amplifiers, conference phones and more. There may also be a time where the Audio Visual Technician may be responsible for setting tables, chairs, stages, and tents for events both inside and outside. Audio Visual Technicians are assigned to work specific events from beginning to end and will function as the Event Manager regulating and monitoring the event including safety and security within the event, sound and audiovisual components to the event, coordinating with other student staff for additional resources and services as requested by the customer.  Audio Visual Technicians must have previous experience with A/V, event production and management.

Events include, but are not limited to: movies, live music concerts, lectures, dances, fashion shows, conferences and special interest meetings. Audio Visual Technicians work closely with the customers to provide a satisfactory and successful event.

This position will work in both the Cone University Center and the Student Union as well as other locations across campus. Must attend weekly shift manager meetings with supervisor.

Previous experience with audio visual equipment, sound, audio, projection, show lighting, live event production and special event support show production is preferred.  A valid US Driver's License is required for all AV Technicians.

Job Expectations:

  • See special events audio/visual services from beginning to end
    • Prep necessary AV inventory for special events
    • Set up equipment according to room layout
    • Work with a team of other techs as well as other departments
    • Communicate often, providing status updates
    • Mark damaged equipment, document and communicate to AV team
    • Strike and return equipment to the proper locations in the AV warehouse
    • Provide in-house support to other departments and team requests
    • Customer support responsibilities; support an event in any capacity that is needed
    • Positive and effective interaction with internal and external customers.
    • Provide coordination with other departments before, during & after an event
