The Role at a Glance

We are excited to bring on a Platform Management / Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Intern to join our Workplace Solutions technology team in a hybrid environment.

The Platform Management team supports Lincoln Financial Group's Workplace Solutions division by maintaining and optimizing our cloud infrastructure, monitoring systems, and automation capabilities. You will work alongside experienced engineers to ensure our platforms are reliable, scalable, and efficient.

 

As a Platform Management / SRE Intern, you will gain hands-on experience with cloud technologies, infrastructure automation, and operational excellence practices. You will support monitoring dashboards, assist with automation scripts, participate in incident response learning, and contribute to documentation that helps our team maintain world-class reliability.

Our Internship dates are from June 1, 2026 - August 7, 2026.

What you'll be doing

  • You will assist with monitoring cloud infrastructure health by reviewing dashboards, alerts, and system metrics to identify potential issues
  • You will create and maintain documentation for platform processes, runbooks, and best practices to support team knowledge sharing
  • You will develop automation scripts using Python or Bash to reduce manual tasks and improve operational efficiency
  • You will support incident response activities by gathering data, documenting timelines, and contributing to post-incident reviews
  • You will participate in infrastructure-as-code initiatives by learning and using tools like CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK under mentorship
  • You will collaborate with senior engineers to implement monitoring improvements using tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, or Prometheus
  • You will contribute to CI/CD pipeline improvements by testing, documenting, and suggesting enhancements to deployment processes
  • You will analyze system performance data and trending metrics to identify optimization opportunities and present findings to the team
  • You will shadow on-call engineers to learn incident management, troubleshooting methodologies, and communication best practices during critical events
  • You will research emerging technologies and SRE best practices, preparing presentations or documentation to share learnings with the team

 

What we’re looking for

Must-haves:

  • Currently pursuing or completed a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field
  • Coursework in operating systems, networking, databases, or distributed systems preferred
  • College Junior

 

Technical Skills: 

  • Basic proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language (Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar)
  • Fundamental understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix command line and basic system administration
  • Experience with Git version control and collaborative development workflows
  • Understanding of networking concepts (DNS, HTTP, TCP/IP)

Desirable Skills: 

  • Exposure to containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Basic knowledge of infrastructure-as-code concepts
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipeline concepts
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner certification or equivalent (or willingness to obtain)
  • Personal projects or GitHub portfolio demonstrating technical curiosity
