For over 50 years, the National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI) has been at the forefront of engaging leaders, policymakers, professionals, parents, and caregivers around critical and timely issues that directly impact
Black children and families. We are a trusted partner in delivering culturally relevant resources that respond to Black children's unique strengths and needs around issues, including early childhood education, health and wellness, literacy, family engagement, and child welfare. With the support of our National Affiliate Network, we are committed to our mission “to improve and advance the quality of life for Black children and families through education and advocacy.”


Position
We are looking for a creative and tech-savvy individual to join our team as a Website and Social Media Intern. In this role, you will enhance our digital presence by managing website updates, developing engaging content for social media, and supporting digital communication strategies. This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate eager to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit marketing and communications.


Primary Responsibilities
Website Management
• Update website content, including news, events, and program information, using [platform, e.g., WordPress or Wix].
• Ensure the website is visually appealing, user-friendly, and mobile-responsive.
• Conduct routine maintenance, such as fixing broken links and updating plugins.
• Monitor and report on website analytics to track engagement and identify areas for improvement.


Social Media Management
• Develop and schedule content for platforms such as [Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn].
• Engage with followers by responding to comments, messages, and questions.
• Support the implementation of social media campaigns aligned with organizational goals.
• Track social media analytics and prepare performance reports.


Content Creation
• Design graphics and visuals for social media and website using tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
• Assist in creating blog posts, newsletters, and other digital content.
• Brainstorm and propose new content ideas to engage and grow our audience.


Additional Duties
• Stay informed on social media trends and digital marketing strategies to keep our platforms innovative.
• Support other communications and marketing initiatives as needed.


Qualifications
With a strong and demonstrated commitment to BCDI-Carolinas’ mission and vision, the Website & Social Media project will be a strategic, diligent, and result-oriented professional with a high level of expertise, flexibility, creativity, and innovation. They will also be:
● Pursuing or recently completed a degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, or a related field.
● Proficiency with website management platforms (e.g., WordPress, Wix, GoDaddy) and social media tools.
● Experience with graphic design tools like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
● Strong writing and editing skills for digital communication.
● Familiarity with social media and website analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
● Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines. Confidence to effectively communicate essential learning and technology concepts to adults and children.
● Communicate scheduling needs and availability accurately and in a timely manner.


Preferred Skills
● Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact).
● Basic knowledge of SEO best practices.
● Passion for nonprofit work and interest in working towards an equitable and just future for Black children and families.
● An unwavering commitment to excellence and solutions-based, outcomes-driven strategies with strong problem-solving skills.
● A high comfort level with issues regarding race, culture, and class.
● A strong commitment to strengths-based, culturally responsive practices and approaches that support and advance Black children, families, and communities.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
● A demonstrated ability to successfully partner and communicate with diverse groups, including external partners and funders (including national, state, and local corporations and organizations), families,
educators, school administrators, policymakers, and advocates, other community stakeholders, and NBCDI staff.

• Website Engagement: Increased page views, lower bounce rates, and improved user experience based on
feedback and analytics.
• Social Media Growth: Increased followers, engagement rate (likes, shares, comments), and effective
campaign reach.
• Content Performance: Increased click-through rates, user interaction, and overall growth of the digital
audience.
• Completion of Tasks: Timely execution of content updates, scheduled social media posts, and other
assigned tasks.


Expected Outcomes
• For the Intern: Gaining hands-on experience in website and social media management, content creation, and marketing strategies. Developing skills in analytics and digital communication.
• For the Organization: Enhanced digital presence, improved engagement with the community, and better alignment of marketing strategies with organizational goals.
