Job Description

The Marketing Research Intern for UNC Charlotte’s Executive Director for Academic Advising Systems will support University College by conducting research and analysis that informs student‑focused communication strategies for advising systems. The position centers on understanding how undergraduate students engage with academic communications, advising tools, and support systems, and translating those insights into recommendations that improve clarity, engagement, and responsiveness.

The purpose of the position is to aid the Director on campus‑wide initiatives that enhance the undergraduate student experience, with a particular focus on communication effectiveness. The intern will review existing communication materials, analyze trends, and provide evidence‑based recommendations to strengthen advising‑related messaging. While the role may include limited student feedback collection, the primary emphasis is on research, analysis, and strategy development, rather than producing large volumes of content.

The intern will also support the unit in leveraging AI tools for research, communication evaluation, and presentation development, including:

  • Using AI to assist in analyzing communication patterns, student behavior insights, and advising system adoption trends
  • Supporting the creation of leadership‑ready presentation materials using AI‑assisted visualization and narrative tools
  • Conducting AI‑enhanced research to synthesize best practices in student communication, marketing, and academic engagement
  • Helping establish and follow ethical guidelines for responsible AI use, including transparency, accuracy, accessibility, bias mitigation, and protection of student privacy
  • Providing direction on best practices for AI‑supported communication strategy, including prompt design, content review, and quality control
  • Evaluating AI tools for efficiency and ethical compliance within academic advising contexts

Duties

  • Assist the Director for Academic Advising Systems in research and strategy tasks related to student‑focused advising communications
  • Conduct and/or assist with limited surveys, interviews, or focus groups as needed
  • Perform research on communication best practices, advising trends, and student engagement strategies
  • Review existing student communication content and provide evidence‑based recommendations
  • Create small‑scale sample content or prototypes only as needed for testing or evaluation
  • Upload, organize, and maintain a central repository of research findings, communication drafts, and feedback
  • Support advising‑system projects related to student communication strategy and promotional planning
  • Use AI tools to support research, analysis, and presentation development
  • Apply ethical standards for AI use in all communication and research activities

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong work ethic and a professional, flexible, and approachable disposition
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite platforms
  • Analytical problem‑solving and organizational skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Quick learner with comfort using new software and technology systems
  • Interest in or willingness to learn AI‑supported research and communication methods
  • Commitment to ethical communication and responsible use of emerging technologies

The candidate should be able to start the position in Oct 2026 to May 2027  5–10 hours per week, primarily during regular business hours.
