Venture Outdoor Leadership
The Internship
The purpose of the position is to coordinate the operations of Venture Outdoor Leadership’s indoor climbing wall under the supervision of Venture professional staff. Your main responsibility is to ensure a safe and educational environment at the campus climbing wall. You will supervise 5-10 student leaders, including coordinating staff schedules, providing regular feedback to student staff, and communicating regularly with your supervisor. You will also coordinate community events above and beyond open climb hours, such as belay clinics, movement classes, and community competitions.
Learning Experience
The climbing wall manager internship offers you a comprehensive learning experience focused on communication, leadership, and initiative within a dynamic recreational environment. You will develop strong written and verbal communication skills by coordinating schedules and events, promoting programs, and providing constructive feedback to both staff and participants. Through these interactions, you will learn to communicate effectively across roles while supporting skill development and personal growth in others.
The position also builds your leadership capacity, as you supervise student staff, coordinate workshops and events, and foster a collaborative and educational community. In doing so, you will learn to recognize and leverage the diverse expertise of your team to enhance program quality.
Additionally, you will cultivate initiative by proactively maintaining a safe facility, identifying equipment and maintenance needs, and contributing ideas for program and space improvements. From generating ideas to implementing and evaluating them, this role develops your autonomy, critical thinking, and sense of professional responsibility.
