Position Title: Education Intern
Accountability: Education Intern reports to the Education Manager
Job Classification: Internship, part-time
About: Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden inspires a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences. The nearly 400 acres of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden provides visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature in all seasons. The property welcomes guests to spectacular gardens, a conservatory dedicated to the display of tropical plants and orchids, sparkling fountains, nearly 6 miles of trails and a dog park.
The Education Intern is responsible for the implementation of Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens educational programs under the supervision of the Education Manager. In this role, the Intern will assist with curriculum development and execution, group management, and assessment for adult and youth programs including, but not limited to camps and field trips. An ideal candidate will be self-motivated, have good interpersonal skills, eagerness to learn, and the ability to work both inside and outside during the summer hours.
Responsibilities:
- Understands the importance of each guest to the Garden and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way.
- Supports Educators during field trips and camp programs.
- Creates Environmental Education curriculum for field trip programs.
- Organizes and maintains the Education Resource Room.
- Exemplifies the Garden Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals.
Requirements
- Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
- Successfully pass a standard background review.
- Must have reliable personal transportation.
- Must be willing to wear a uniform and work outside as needed.
- Available to work occasional nights and weekends to support events.

- - Must be able to perform physical requirements of programs at the most rigorous level.
- - May experience exposure to extended periods of sun, rain, cold temperatures, wind, water and potentially uneven terrain that may contain trip hazards.
- - Must be able to hear distress noises and hear and see distress signals in a variety of environments, always keeping safety in mind.
- - Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.

Experience & Education:
- Pursuing a degree in relevant field (education, environmental science, biology, etc.)
- Preferred, but not required, coursework or experience in education or environmental science.
- Experience working with children of various ages.
- Experience with Canva.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain an organized and detailed workflow with changing variables.
- Comfortable working autonomously as well as working in a team environment.
Location:
The Education Intern will work on-site at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in Belmont, NC and will have the opportunity to work remotely at times.
Schedule:
The Education Intern will work approximately 24 hours a week. The preferred first day is Tuesday, May 20th and last day is Friday, August 8th. Dates are flexible to meet academic schedules.
Compensation:
The contracted intern will be given a $2,500 stipend to be paid biweekly. Work activities that require the use of a personal vehicle may receive gas mileage reimbursement upon supervisor approval.
